The products your family uses every day – infant car seats, kids' toys, bike helmets – could pose a safety risk if they are hazardous or poorly designed. And it’s up to one small but mighty government agency – the Consumer Product Safety Commission – to find these products, warn consumers of the risks, get them off the market, and push industry for the safest products possible.

But right now, the agency is under attack: three CPSC Commissioners were just fired without cause, and the White House is floating a plan to eliminate the CPSC.  It’s vital for every American to speak out and tell their members of Congress to stop this assault on this critically important watchdog agency. We need a strong, independent safety commission that can quickly remove unsafe toys, electronics and other dangerous products from the market, and push industry to make the safest products possible.

Petition to Congress

We are deeply concerned about the Administration’s recent efforts to weaken the Consumer Product Safety Commission, including the firing of three of its Commissioners. Congress created the CPSC over 50 years ago to protect families across the country from dangerous or illegal products in the marketplace, and give Americans the timely information they need to keep themselves and their families safe.

In its role as an independent watchdog agency, the CPSC oversees the safety of more than 15,000 types of consumer products including toys, baby products, appliances, and electronics. It has a special role making sure that kids’ products are safe, recognizing that our children are particularly vulnerable. Now that the CPSC is under attack, Congress must step up to defend it. We urge you to fight for the reinstatement of the fired agency Commissioners, and defend this independent, bipartisan watchdog agency that works to keep all Americans safe.
