Getting Artificial Dyes Out of School Lunches

with special guest Mark Bittman

Food dyes linked to behavioral issues and attention disorders are currently being served up by schools in lunch foods and snacks. It’s time to get these chemical additives out of school foods and protect our kids’ health.

On April 30, 2026, Consumer Reports and Environmental Working group hosted a live-streamed panel discussion at Le Botaniste in New York City to discuss the issue. Experts included: Mark Bittman (food journalist and author); Brian Kavanagh (New York state senator, District 27), Kate MacKenzie (NYC Mayor's office of Food Policy), and Jennifer Pomeranz (Assoc. Professor at NYU). Listen in here.
