Tell NC leaders: No rate hike for Duke Energy!
Consumers can’t afford higher utility bills
Hundreds of thousands of Duke Energy customer accounts received disconnect notices in January 2026. Even after reducing its requests, Duke is still seeking approval to collect $1.1 billion in additional revenue from North Carolina ratepayers.
The North Carolina Utilities Commission has the authority to approve or reject Duke’s proposed cost increase. They’re expected to make their decision soon, and they need to hear from consumers like you.
Add your name to tell the members of the Utilities Commission: Say NO to Duke’s rate increase, and focus on lowering energy costs for North Carolina families.
To the North Carolina Utilities Commission:
We urge the North Carolina Utilities Commission to limit Duke Energy's proposal to raise rates for North Carolina residents, and challenge Duke's return on equity expectations. Duke Energy, after reporting nearly $5 billion in net income last year, is asking regulators to increase electric rates further, driving up bills that so many customers already struggle to afford.
As Duke makes new promises on grid reliability, it is backtracking on earlier commitments to develop new sources of clean, affordable energy. Duke is seeking investment in new gas-burning facilities as it plans for growing electricity demand, including from Big Tech data centers. Customers should not be left paying for the energy demands of Big Tech. With so many families struggling to keep up with their electric bills, now is not the time to raise rates on ratepayers.
