Dear *|signup_primary_salutation|*,

I am Talib Nichiren and I oversee all planned philanthropy giving at Consumer Reports (CR). I am pleased to be writing to you as we are celebrating the last days of  National Make-A-Will Month. I am excited to tell you more, but first here’s are quick donor impact highlights you'll find in this report:

In our current Make-A-Will month campaign, CR members decided to donate $22,000,000+ in new planned gift intentions to support the future of CR and its impact for generations of consumers to come! We are so grateful for these members to have joined CR's Legacy Society. Thank you!

Every August, around this time, I spend time with my family and friends to catch up and reflect on the year that has passed and the road ahead - what I envision for my future. A time for me to also update my will and estate plans to align with where my life is. This gives me the peace of mind that I am taking care of my family, pets and causes I want to support.

The August 2024 issue of CR magazine featured an insightful article The Last Goodbye: How to Plan a Funeral by Janet Siroto. Nearly 70% of all Americans do not have a legal estate plan in place leading to long probate processes that leave families and personal legacy all tangled in frustration and costs. CR is committed to educating, encouraging and helping our community even through a family story about the photos of our livesAll consumers should have access to reliable and secure estate planning tools that protect who and what we love and who we are. A will is an essential part of our lives and future plans.

CR has vetted and partnered with FreeWill, an independent third party platform, which provides a step-by-step will and estate planning service to establish your legacy plans. As a dedicated member and generous donor, your access to this tool is free. Simply start here: www.freewill.com/consumerreports. Consider using this companion Planner to Help Organize Your Estate Plan.

With FreeWill you retain control over your assets, you can change or update your decision at any time. You do not have to include CR, but if you do please let us know so we can thank you. With your plan for the future - together - we can continue to work side by side for truth, transparency, and fairness in the marketplace for all consumers.

As you can probably tell, planned giving is my passion. I know that no one will remember my GPA, my salary, or my fancy job title. People WILL remember the time I spent with them, my character, and how I treated them. In the end, some things matter, others don’t, but it is always important to protect the people, things, pets, and causes I care about - because that's my legacy. Please keep reading to learn more about planned giving at CR and the many ways you can make a lasting impact. The best part of my job is speaking with supporters like you with thanks and to discuss ways to help you support our mission. Let’s talk! I can be reached at 914-378-2220 or by email at [email protected].

I look forward to being in touch again in October with more planned giving highlights for Donor-Advised Fund Day (10/10) and on National Estate Planning Awareness Week (10/21-10/27).

Until then, please know how much I appreciate your philanthropic dedication to CR in creating a fair, safe, and transparent marketplace for all.

Regards,

Talib Nichiren

Many of you signed the Let's Protect Our Babies petition. They’re warm and soothing when temperatures drop, but baby wipe warmers may also be a breeding ground for bacteria, experts say, but Are Baby Wipe Warmers Safe?

CR praised the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for a precedent-setting order that holds Amazon accountable for hazardous products sold on its platform by third parties. Orie Calls Out Companies

CR called on Amazon and Walmart to stop selling infant loungers manufactured by Ningbo Tree Nest, following a public warning by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The loungers have been sold under five brand names on the two platforms, and they pose significant safety risks to babies, including suffocation, falls, and entrapment. Here’s our story and news release. Amazon has now told CR it is removing the products from its website, notifying customers of the CPSC’s concerns, and issuing refunds. No word from Walmart or the manufacturer yet.

With your support, we are creating a marketplace that secures a fair future and healthy development for the next generation.

Digital Marketplace

Exciting news! We are beginning the roll out of ten new YouTube videos, with three now publicly available on our channel:

Early last week CR launched new YouTube videos ads to reach out to more consumers. These campaigns are targeted to specific markets with a focus on brand awareness and a demand generation component as well. This fall, we will show some of these videos in connected TV campaigns (e.g. Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc.).

The remaining seven videos will be posted over the next several days (the package is comprised of three advocacy videos, three tester videos, and four videos where inanimate objects are brought to life).
