Personalized or surveillance pricing – where corporations set a price based on the data they collect about you – is a growing trend in corporate America. They glean everything from where you physically are at any given moment to what you recently searched for online to set an individualized price for the products and services you want to buy.
These pricing tactics can cost you real money. While states have been at the front line of this fight by banning surveillance pricing, the FTC has the legal authority to ban this practice as well. Sign our petition to push the FTC to ban surveillance pricing! (Please note that your name and state will be listed as part of the public record of the FTC comments)
After you sign the petition, you’ll have a chance to submit your own public comment directly to the FTC on your concerns and frustrations around surveillance pricing.

Personalized pricing has been a top issue for Consumer Reports. It hurts consumers, takes advantage of people who might be desperate enough to pay much inflated prices, and breaks how markets are intended to work. There has been momentum to address this issue, from states banning personalized pricing to a bipartisan Congressional hearing on the topic.
Under Section 5 of the FTC Act, the FTC has the authority to ban personalized pricing. In addition to banning personalized pricing, we are calling on you to set strong safeguards around personalized discounts.
