Consumer Reports’ investigation into Kroger’s rewards program – which offers various discounts to members it deems ‘loyal shoppers’ – revealed that the grocery chain made more than $500 million in profits last year not from selling food, but from selling your data. Not only are Kroger loyalty shoppers’ data being sold to the highest bidder, they are not all receiving the same discount offers. This comes after we discovered Kroger has a pattern of overcharging customers at checkout because of expired sales price tags.

Groceries cost enough these days without grocery pricing issues that further eat into your wallet. Sign our petition, and help put pressure on Kroger to stop selling and sharing shoppers’ data; to ensure loyalty program members have access to the same discounts; and that shoppers get the advertised shelf price at checkout.

To: Kroger CEO Ron Sargent

We demand you immediately take steps to Make the Price Right in all your stores for shoppers, whether or not they are Kroger loyalty members. Investigations by Consumer Reports found significant errors on discount price labels on Kroger store shelves where wrong or expired shelf prices resulted in an average overcharge of 18.4 percent per item at checkout. Kroger also is selling loyalty members’ shopping and personal data to other companies – including tobacco and health care companies – as well as offering different discounts to loyalty shoppers based on that data.

We demand that Kroger stop selling and sharing shoppers’ data; ensure loyalty program members have access to the same discounts; and that shoppers get the advertised shelf price at checkout. During a time of skyrocketing grocery prices, we expect your company to immediately address these pricing issues and ensure American consumers get fair, accurate grocery prices.
