Lets Power Smarter, Maryland!
In the midst of an affordability crisis, Maryland’s Baltimore Gas and Electric is proposing a $100/year hike on your electric bill to generate millions more in profits at a time when hundreds of thousands of its customers are unable to pay their bills.
Maryland families deserve affordable, reliable electricity, not another round of excessive rate hikes. Add your name to urge the Maryland Public Service Commission to reject excessive rate increases and prioritize affordable, reliable energy for Maryland families.
What are the stats from MD right now?

What we're doing in Maryland right now
CR’s work in Maryland is part of a broader energy affordability
initiative, which is mobilizing consumers nationwide to advocate for
fair utility policies as electricity costs continue to rise. Through
petitions, consumer storytelling, research, and policy advocacy, CR
is working to ensure that households—not just utilities and the
technology industry—have a meaningful voice in decisions that
determine who pays for America’s rapidly expanding electric
grid.
As utilities across the country seek approval for
billions of dollars in new infrastructure investments, CR is
expanding its work with consumers, policymakers, and advocates in
multiple states to promote affordable electricity, fair cost
allocation, and greater accountability in utility and data center
regulation.
Stories from Maryland
These are stories from consumers in MD struggling with higher higher energy costs
“I fight each month to be diligent in saving on energy but
each keeps increasing not good for diabetics and the elderly
on fixed incomes or barely middle class all offering is
budget and $400 is not a budget plan!"
-Shantal, MD
"Every winter it's the same thing. I wear more clothes inside my home than I used to wear outside. The only difference; each year I pay more to freeze. Maryland politicians done care. Another increase, more expense for the homeowner."
-John, MD
“We are now paying $111.00 more than we did at the
beginning of 2026. We are too warm in the summer and too
cold in the winter to keep cost down. People accuse us of
living in the dark because we have lights on only in the
room we are in. As senior citizens, I feel we have taken
proper steps to conserve energy. We don't have unlimited
funds. My heart goes out to families as everything is more
expensive. And for higher profits??!! Just
wrong."
