A top executive at the Hershey Company recently said that the company “would love to eradicate (heavy metals) completely” in its dark chocolate bars.  Now it’s time for Hershey to commit to a timetable to do so. Consumer Reports recent testing found that three Hershey products – Lily’s Extremely Dark, Lily’s Extra Dark and Hershey’s Special Dark chocolate bars – had high levels of lead or cadmium, heavy metals that have been linked to a host of health problems.

Join Consumer Reports in sending a message to Hershey’s CEO to publicly commit to a timetable to reduce heavy metals in its dark chocolate!

PETITION TO CEO MICHELE BUCK

In light of recent comments made by Hershey CFO Steve Voskiul that the company “would love to eradicate (lead and cadmium) completely” from its dark chocolate bars, we urge you to publicly commit to a timetable to significantly reduce levels of these heavy metals. Consumer Reports testing recently found that three of your products – Lily’s Extremely Dark, Lily’s Extra Dark, and Hershey’s Special Dark chocolate bars – tested high in lead, cadmium or both. Since these heavy metals have been linked to a host of health problems, as your customers we expect Hershey to make public its plan to significantly reduce, or eradicate, lead and cadmium from all its dark chocolate bars.
