Very soon, Congress will be deciding whether to include the CREATES Act in the government funding bill. The CREATES Act would close loopholes that branded pharma companies are exploiting to refuse to share medicine samples and information with generic companies. Generic drugs are a vital part of fostering a medicine marketplace where competition works for consumers. When generic companies are able to make generic drugs, it increases competition and brings down prices. When pharmaceutical companies cheat their way out of competition, patients and consumers suffer.
Nobody should have to choose between paying for life-saving medicines and paying for rent – but the drug companies won’t voluntarily choose to open the playing field to competition that will bring costs down for consumers. We need Congress to force a change by including the CREATES Act in the government funding bill.
