Illinois lawmakers have a chance to make credit freezes free. For consumers who want to protect their pocketbooks, a credit freeze is the strongest defense possible against identity theft. Unfortunately, credit bureaus are charging unreasonable fees for placing, lifting, or removing security freezes. A new bill has passed through the House and will be moving to the floor of the Senate for a vote.
