Our consumer financial watchdog is under attack right now by the White House and some in Congress. Not only are they trying to completely shut down and defund the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau – created after the big banks tanked our economy in 2008 – efforts are underway right now that would block reforms that put money back into your pocket, and protect your sensitive data like Social Security numbers from being sold to the highest bidder.

It’s critical your members of Congress hear from consumers who want a strong financial watchdog – not a big bank lapdog. Sign our petition, and tell your Senators and Representative that you expect them to stand up for your financial security, not the banks!

Petition to Congress

We urge you to stand up for Americans' financial security, and protect our consumer financial watchdog from efforts to defund it, weaken it, or block its pro-consumer rules. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was created in the wake of the 2008 bank-fueled economic meltdown to make sure people like us are protected from financial scams and tricks -- and it already has returned $21 billion to consumers who were taken advantage of.

Caps on outrageous bank and credit card fees that can cost the average person $400 a year, and proposals that would stop the selling of my most sensitive information to the highest bidder – including my income and Social Security number – are being attacked or blocked by some in Congress and the Administration. Please do all you can to keep our consumer financial watchdog strong and independent, and vote against bills to overturn these and other vital consumer protections.
