A new Consumer Reports investigation has found that internet-connected bikes and treadmills from companies like Peloton and NordicTrack, and home gym systems like Tonal and Mirror, give themselves permission to collect a trove of personal information about you. And their vague privacy policies allow them to potentially share much of that information with data brokers, who sell your life details to companies that make critical decisions about you.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau wants to hold data brokers accountable, and we need your help to make that happen. These rules would restrict data brokers from selling your personal and financial information, except for permissible purposes like qualifying for a mortgage; require data brokers get your explicit permission to share your data; and give you the right to correct inaccurate information. Sign our petition to the CFPB to finalize these strong rules!

Please finalize the strong pro-consumer rule that has been proposed to restrict data brokers from sharing consumers’ most personal information. Our data should only be used for relevant financial decisions and not for marketing purposes. We should also have more control over our data by requiring data brokers to get our explicit consent to share our data, and have the ability to correct any inaccuracies. Data brokers have access to our most sensitive data and should be held accountable for protecting our privacy.
