Product linked to deaths and thousands of injuries

Baby walkers, those sit-in play seats with wheels, are common in households with children learning to walk. But what many parents don’t realize is that these walkers do not actually help a child learn how to walk, and they are linked to numerous deaths and thousands of injuries – so dangerous that the American Academy of Pediatrics is calling for their ban.
Despite repeated product recalls, updated safety standards, and warnings from pediatricians, baby walkers continue to be sold everywhere in the U.S., sending thousands of young children to the emergency room every year with serious injuries from falls, tip-overs, and entrapments.
Canada has already banned baby walkers because of their dangers. It’s time for the U.S. to do the same, and protect countless children from injury and death. Join us in calling on Congress to ban baby walkers from the market.
Petition to Congress:
Baby walkers have been linked to numerous pediatric deaths and thousands of injuries, and the American Academy of Pediatrics has called for their ban because of these significant safety risks to infants and toddlers. Yet these products remain on the market. We call on you to pass legislation that ends the sale, manufacture and distribution of baby walkers in the U.S., and protects our children from these safety risks.
Baby walkers do not aid in teaching a child how to walk. In fact, studies suggest that they may delay motor skills and walking development by encouraging improper posture and movement patterns. Safety regulators have tried to curb the dangers of walkers through repeated product recalls, updated safety standards, and pediatrician warnings, but these steps have not solved the problems that lead to injuries. It’s time for the U.S. to join Canada to ban baby walkers, and pass legislation that ends the sale, manufacture and distribution of these products in the U.S.
