Consumer Reports’ new tests of some kids’ puff snacks revealed the highest levels of lead of all the baby foods we’ve ever tested. These products are made with cassava flour, a root vegetable touted as a gluten- and grain-free option marketed for young kids and toddlers.

Lead is a neurotoxin. There is no safe level of lead for people to ingest, especially kids,  since high lead levels can affect their cognitive and physical development, potentially resulting in speech and language delays, as well as behavioral problems.

Through years of testing, Consumer Reports has consistently found concerning levels of lead in food and beverages intended for children, but our nation’s food safety watchdog has dragged its feet on taking action. Enough is enough. Tell the FDA to immediately remove products with high levels of lead from the marketplace, and set limits on lead in food to protect our kids.

Petition to the FDA:

Consumer Reports’ recent tests of kids’ snack foods found concerning levels of lead in cassava-based puffs, the latest product their years of testing has revealed heavy metal contamination in foods marketed for young children. Regular exposure to these contaminants can affect childrens’ cognitive and physical development, possibly resulting in speech delays and behavioral problems. It’s time for the FDA to take immediate action to remove products with high levels of lead from the marketplace, and set limits on lead in food marketed for children and babies.
