Consumer Reports’ new analysis of the top 10 risky recalls include bagged salad, poultry and ground beef. But other widely consumed foods made the list – including peaches, uncooked flour and onions.

With nearly 130,000 people hospitalized and 3,000 dying each year from foodborne illness, our nation needs a strong food safety watchdog. Sign our petition to the FDA Commissioner to name a fully empowered food safety watchdog who puts your health first – no one should worry about getting seriously ill or dying from food in the U.S.

PETITION TO FDA COMMISSIONER ROBERT CALIFF

Americans expect and deserve the safest food possible. Yet a new Consumer Reports’ analysis has found that the top 10 risky recalled foods include many foods most of us wouldn’t have expected – including peaches, papayas, flour and onions. With nearly 130,000 people hospitalized and 3,000 dying each year from foodborne illness, our nation needs a strong food safety watchdog.

We urge you to adopt the recommendations of the Reagan-Udall Foundation, and name a fully empowered, expert deputy commissioner with direct line authority over all key units of the foods program. This new food safety watchdog would unify the entire foods program under a single leader, and more effectively target the foods that put our families’ health at the greatest risk.
