Congress: Convene Hearings on Algorithmic Bias
Help prevent discrimination in the algorithms of the future

The number of companies using artificial intelligence or machine learning in commercial applications is exploding. But there are very few regulations on the books to rein in these technologies, which can have widespread discriminatory impacts on various groups of people in the country.

Before we see more documented cases of discrimination based on algorithmic bias, we are calling on Congress to convene hearings with business executives and top AI and ethics researchers in the country. Can you sign our petition calling for hearings now?

We are asking Congress to convene hearings to explore algorithmic bias. Lawmakers should hear from business executives about current testing and deployment practices for AI and machine learning. And they should hear from AI researchers and ethicists about how bias seeps into algorithms. The goal of these hearings is to spur conversations in government about how we can set smart guardrails to prevent discrimination and bias in the algorithms of the future.
